A trial order forgives small mistakes — you notice, you fix it, you move on. A bulk order does not offer that luxury; the wrong size, grade or quantity shows up as a warehouse full of steel you cannot use. Before you confirm a large consignment, run through these five checks.
1. Match the grade and size to the actual drawing
Confirm the exact grade (for TMT bars), diameter, thickness or section size against your structural drawing or BOQ — not from memory. A mismatch on a bulk order is expensive to reverse.
2. Get the quantity in writing, with units
Steel is quoted and billed in tonnes, but ordered by piece count, length or bundle — make sure everyone is working from the same conversion. A written quote with both units avoids disputes at delivery.
3. Confirm the delivery timeline against your site schedule
Bulk consignments take longer to arrange than a trial order. Share your required delivery window upfront so it can be confirmed against current stock and dispatch capacity — not assumed.
4. Ask how quality is checked before dispatch
A trustworthy supplier should be able to tell you plainly how a consignment is verified before it leaves the warehouse — grade, size and finish — so you are not the first checkpoint.
5. Get a proper GST invoice and payment terms in writing
For a bulk order, confirm the GST invoice, accepted payment modes (cash, card, cheque, DD or online) and any part-payment or delivery-linked terms before dispatch, not after.
